If your veggies and flowers never quite develop an If your veggies and flowers never quite develop and fruit or bloom like plants you see in gardening magazines, it’s probably partly because you’re skipping a very important step— mixing in starter fertilizer at planting time. Whether you are gardening in pots or in the ground, fertilizer is key. And mixing it in at the roots is better than sprinkling fertilizer on top of the soil after you plant. Following up with fertilizer that you apply on the surface is just fine, but your only opportunity to easily feed right at the roots is when you first plant. We’ve seen the results, and starter fertilizer is a must! After planting, be sure to follow up with whatever feeding frequency and specialized fertilizer type (fruiting, blooming, citrus, etc.) your plant requires. The fertilizer box usually has all that good info on there.
