Ahhh…. the end of September is Autumn’s welcome. Blazing summer intensity shifts toward pumpkins and sweaters (we hope) and all the cool-season veggies and colors we’ve been missing. In the coming weeks, we’ll say goodbye to summer and hello to Fall. Oh, kale yes!

September Offerings at the Nursery

With the heat of summer beginning to wane and rain in our future, our thoughts turn again to planting! Fall is considered our “Second Spring”, and it’s a time to plant nearly everything– from landscape plants to bulbs to lawns to cool-season veggies, herbs and color. It’s also a great time to add compost to hard-working beds. And believe it or not, things will begin looking pretty Halloweeny toward the end of the month. What an exciting shift!

New Vendors

I managed to get away in August, to one of my favorite getaways, Mendocino. Mendocino gives me ocean views, cool-misty air, good eats, a liberal vibe (my people), plenty to do, and it’s a flower lover’s dream. It’s pure soul food for me. On this trip, I found a few cool items we’ll be offering at The Plant Foundry soon– scented soy candles from Mendocino Candle Company, Organic, biodynamic extra virgin olive oil from SunHawk Farms, and inspiring posters and magnets from Syracuse Cultural Workers.
