Our racks are filled with 2021 seeds, and it’s a great time to start planning and planting for the new year.
Tomatoes, Peppers and Eggplant
Did you know you can start tomato and pepper seeds indoors starting in mid-January?! That’s, like, two weeks from now, so it’s a great time to decide which summer beauties will end up in your harvest basket. And eggplant seeds should be started between February and March. Don’t just dream of summer veggies… select and start those seeds!
Seed Brands
We are proud to carry three respected seed brands, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Renee’s, and Botanical Interests. All are non-GMO, and Renee’s and Botanical Interests offer many organic seed varieties. Plants you can grow from seed include: herbs, veggies (including sprouts and microgreens), and flowers. New seeds… new year… another Spring and a chance to begin again!
What to Plant in January
There isn’t a month of the year during which there isn’t something we can plant from seed. Even January. Everything you can plant is listed in our monthly eNewsletter’s “What to Plant” link, and I highly recommend you get yourself a copy of the UCCE 2021 Gardening Guide and Calendar. It will keep you on track with planting and maintenance, and since it’s month-by-month, you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed and lost. The secret to a green thumb is thumbing through a really good calendar like this.
